New Years Eve

HAPPY NEW YEAR.  We were staying in Sarasota and drove into St. Petersburg (near Tampa, Florida) to celebrate the fantastic year 2004 and welcome 2005.  A 10 block by 10 block family-friendly party was in progress and we had a great time.  Many of the churches were sites of various musical performances as were bank lobbies used to host theatrical or musical shows.

One of the art galleries was turned into a giant kids craft area.

Anyone could volunteer to either make or wear a costume for a few hours.

The kids loved the play area and rides.

The Beach

The first few days after New Years Eve were quite warm (+85 F or +27 C) - we lazed the days away at the beach.  The sand at Siesta Key Beach, Sarasota was so fine it was like icing sugar.

Toria models the latest in beachwear.

Todd illustrates how one relaxes at the beach.

Tomas spent countless hours building swimming pools.

Toria was incharge of getting water into the swimming pools.

Alligator Alley

On our way to Sarasota beach we had passed "Alligator Alley" - a major highway where alligators literally line either side of the highway.  There are so many alligators and not enough room that they sometimes lie on top of each other.  Here are a couple of our favourite pics...

Check out the teeth...
